Easter Plays

Easter is a glorious celebration of Our Risen Savior! It is a Triumphal Entry into God's Kingdom. We celebrate Christ's victory conquering sin and death. These plays present different parts of this Gospel story, often from the point of view of people who were there, or of modern people retelling the story to a hungry soul. Differing numbers of characters are used for individual plays and the plays can be adapted for your particular needs. Take a look at some of our titles. We're sure you can find something you like.

The story of Jesus, the Christ, His teachings and miracles, and His crucifixion and resurrection -- as two blind beggars and two rich rulers in Jerusalem could have told it.

To show the coming of the Christ, as revealed by John the Baptist, and, to say as clearly as did Isaiah: "Behold your God!"

This is done by portraying Jesus of Nazareth and his teachings and deeds, especially those in which "The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."

Characters:  46 characters       Length:  1 hour

This drama presents the Biblical story of how Jesus of Nazareth was crucified and buried and then rose again and ascended into heaven--told from the viewpoint of the Roman Centurion in charge of the crucifixion, a Roman senator visiting in Jerusalem, and Madam Claudia Procula, the wife of Pontius Pilate, who--because of a dream--almost prevented her husband from condemning the Christ to death.

The plot follows Biblical facts--often verse-by-verse, line-by-line--and offers details any careful reader can find between the lines.

Christmas Plays

Christmas is one of the most joyous times of the year. What makes it so joyous is that our loving Father sent His Son to live and dwell among us and provide a way back into His presence through that Son. "Immanuel", God with Us. God Incarnate. The Baby in the Manger is the reason we celebrate. These plays present different aspects of that incarnation  as various characters relive that most Holy season. Select one of the many dramas to present to captivate your  audience.

A Strange New Star examines the prophecies concerning Christ's birth. It is a retelling of the different events that led the shepherds, the Magi, and others to worship the birth of the King in the manger. The play reaches its culmination as Simeon rejoices over seeing Jesus's presentation at the temple. He rejoices that he did not see death until He has seen the Messiah. Simeon is then escorted into glory.

Dramas From Various Places in Scripture

Mrs. Smith wrote three more plays which are appropriate for any time of the year. These are highly adaptable stories testifying to the truth of God's Word.

God's Word Is Forever powerfully dramatizes the chapter 36 of the book of
Jeremiah, which tells of how the writings of the prophet Jeremiah were burned
by the king and then re-written. The clear message is that God protects His Word and therefore it is reliable.

Characters:  About 18       Length:  1 hour

This play is an adaptation of Smith's play, "God's Word Is Forever," by Elizabeth Blomgren.

Characters:  About 16       Length:  1 hour

Jewell Ellen Smith was the author of over 30 Christian plays for Easter and Christmas, most of which are available below by clicking on their names. Drawing on her experience growing up in rural Arkansas and as an Army wife and mother and winner of the Alabama Mother of the Year award in 1987, Jewell designed these plays for church and drama groups who want to present the timeless truths of Christ's birth and resurrection. The plays were initially performed from the 1970s to the 1990s at Fort Rucker (now renamed to Ft. Novosel). The plays are usually in a "play within a play" format; the sub-play, which takes place during Jesus' ministry, illustrates and dramatizes the story being told in the main play. Some plays include music, either from standard hymnbooks, or that she herself wrote. All Scripture quotations are from the King James Version.
